Describe your show in 10 words or less?

Come for the new music, stay for the informative discussions.

What do you consider to be the greatest year for music?

As a Hip Hop head, I’ll go with 1994 (Albums by OutKast, Biggie Smalls, Nas, Jeru the Damaja, Common Sense, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth, Gang Starr, Digable Planets, O.C., Keith Murray, & more…)

What was the first record you owned or begged someone to buy you?

The first 2 cassette tapes I bought with my own money (from my10th birthday) were The Clash – Combat Rock & Adam Ant – Friend or Foe

Name 5 albums that should be illegal for people not to own?

Stevie Wonder – Songs in the Key of Life

Donald Byrd – Places & Spaces

Jamiroquai - The Return of the Space Cowboy

A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders

Sade – The Best of Sade (everybody needs some Sade in their life!)

You can put together a band of any musicians, dead or alive, to play at any venue – who, where, why?

Eric Krasno (Soulive/Lettuce) – Guitar

Clyde Stubblefield – Drums

Trombone Shorty – Trombone

Donald Byrd – Trumpet

Grover Washington Jr. – Sax

Karl Denson – Sax/Flute

Bootsy Collins -bass

Roy Ayers – Vibraphone

Art Neville – Hammond B3 Organ

Professor Longhair – Piano

Sly Stone, James Brown, Black Thought – Vocals

Material produced by the Mizell Brothers & performed at Tipitina’s in New Orleans during a late night 2am Jazz Fest show. It might very well be the most ridiculously funky concert with the illest solos of all time.

Recommend another show on Frission?

Soul Circle Radio by DJ MZA.  This would be the show I’d want to do if we weren’t doing The Expedition. It’s a great show showcasing great progressive soul music.
