Future beats, old school gems and forward thinking hip hop.
What do you consider to be the greatest year for music?
1994, 2 years after I was actually born. But with the release of one of my favorite rap albums of all time, “Illmatic”, it’s hard to look past that year. There’s also Biggies, “Ready To Die”, Commons album “Resurrection” and not to mention Jeru the Damaja.
What was the first record you owned or begged someone to buy you?
The first record I ever bought was DJ Otzi’s track “Hey Baby”. Shout out to 8 year old me. One of the first albums I asked my parents to buy me was “Origin of Symmetry” by Muse. Still to this day one of my favorite rock albums of all time.
Name 5 albums that should be illegal for people not to own?
Jurassic 5 – Power In Numbers
Kendrick Lamar – To Pimp A Butterfly
NAS – Illmatic
Bloc Party – Silent Alarm
Jay Dilla – Donuts
You can put together a band of any musicians, dead or alive, to play at any venue – who, where, why?
Jimi Hendrix has to be the lead guitarist. Lets put D’angelo as the singer and he can provide smooth guitar too. Thundercat on bass. Drummer has to be Buddy Rich. And I’ll throw Bill Evans on the piano while I’m at it. As for the venue where they would play, how about Slane Castle, Meath, Ireland.
Recommend another show on Frission?
For me, both Baconwave and The Weight are must listens. Lots of smooth forward thinking beat music. Just what I love.
