Sparkling rapper and singer Danay Suarez will release her second studio album, Palabras Manuales, on March 3rd after signing for Universal Music Group.
The first track from the album “Integridad” (Integrity), written by Stephen Marley and Suarez is available now.
Danay Suarez is a naturally gifted rapper but always planned to foucs on singing. She joined Cuba’s “Opera de la Calle” in 2003 before getting her music industry break in 2007 with Cuban fusion king X-Alfonso. Her work with X-Alfonso led to her discovery a few years later by Gilles Peterson. Gilles featured her on 5 tracks on his ‘Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura* / Various – New Cuba Sound’ in 2009.
In 2011 she released her first solo studio album entitled ‘Polvo de la Humedad’ and then returned the next year on the Mala track ‘Noches Sueños‘ on his ‘Mala in Cuba’ album on Brownswood.
Danay is passionate about Cuba and Cuban music, she thrives in a range of styles including Jazz, Reggae, Dub-Step, traditional Cuban music and of course Hip Hop which forms the basis of her style. Being Hip Hop in Cuba, like Danay, so close and yet so far away from the USA means no Nu Era or Air Jordans and no oversized street wear. A truly authentic b-girl, she is just keeping it real with expert lyricism and a voice that, like Lauren Hill, soars up above rap and jazz and r’n’b in a place all of it’s own that doesn’t need a genre.
