It’s been a couple of days since the mysterious and yet very effective return of Radiohead with ‘Burn The Witch’ and the accompanying online black magic that swept across all the band’s social media accounts. Now XL Recordings presents another talented act from their roster – Canadian beatmaker / producer Kaytranada and his debut album 99.9%.

We have been eagerly awaiting this since his ‘Bus Ride’ single release about a month ago with that trippy bass line and crazy Karriem Riggins beating the shit out of that hi-hat!
Totally no disappointment here – this is an hour of everything you could need from an eclectic & interesting record these days – groovy drum beats, pulsing percussions, deep bass lines, atmospheric pads, spanning soul, jazz, funk, hip-hop, and even a Brazilian vibe on ‘Lite Spots’.

You got the slow & groovy rhythm section based ‘Bus Ride’ & ‘Weight Off’ (think Toro Y Moi here by way of his brilliant ‘Underneath The Pine’ from 2011?) You’ve got mainstream-ish hip-hop numbers such as ‘Got It Good’ or ‘Drive Me Crazy’, and then‘Lite Spot’ based on an incredible blend of Brazilian classic female vocals & funky disco vibes.

The record features many musicians such as Karriem Riggins already mentioned above, River Tiber, Craig David! Vic Mensa, Phonte, Andersoon. Paak, Little Dragon, and more.

As if the first 14 tracks of this album weren’t good enough, the finale is the unbelievable ‘Bullets’ which will ensure that you never finish the album at all, just hit rewind with Yukimi time after time time after time…
