It’s been a wee while since Andrew Scott’s last outing as NY*AK. His ‘Laid EP’ on Phonica’s impeccable Karakul imprint last year, topped untold deep house charts, pitting a loping MPC sass against crunchy Roland drums & the warmest of Juno synth washes.
The 4 track ‘Dollar EP’ is ready and hits the streets on vinyl on the 26th of February. As we have come to expect from Technicolour, it does not disappoint. The soulful touch and unmistakable warmness of his pure hardware set up remains. Scott uses Nord Lead 2, Roland SH101, Roland 606, Juno 106, Jen SX1000, Rhodes 88MK1 in combination with an MPC throughout. The tempo on two tracks ‘Goodbye’ & ‘Shadow’ is tweaked upwards giving them a distinct and hard to achieve Mr Fingers vibe. ‘Xager’ & ‘Dollar’ may have a more Detroit style touch but still feel just right for that dark, sweaty corner of some Chicago club this release transports you to.
